  • VAT invoices provided; finance available on larger clearances

When someone close to you passes away, the practical task of clearing their home can feel overwhelming. There is no right timescale — some families want the property cleared quickly, others need time to go through belongings first. HouseClear works around you, not the other way round.

Our team is experienced in bereavement clearances and understands what these jobs really involve. We take genuine care with personal belongings, set aside photographs, letters and keepsakes we come across, and treat every home as if the family were standing beside us.

Where items can go on to be useful, we make sure they do — good furniture and household goods are donated to local charities or rehomed rather than thrown away, which many families tell us matters a great deal.

Bereavement House Clearance — your questions answered

We're not ready to clear everything yet — can you do it in stages?

Of course. Many families ask us to clear one room at a time, or to remove furniture first and return for the rest later. We will work at whatever pace suits you, and there is no charge for splitting the job across visits.

Can family keep certain items?

Absolutely. Before we start, we walk the property with you (or work from your list) so anything the family wants to keep is clearly identified and left untouched, or moved to one room for collection.

Will belongings just be thrown away?

No. We sort everything we remove. Good furniture, clothing and household items are donated to charity or rehomed, recyclables are recycled, and only genuine waste is disposed of. If you would like items to go to a specific charity, tell us and we will do our best.

Can you clear the house if we live elsewhere?

Yes. We regularly clear properties for families who live in another part of the country. We can collect keys locally, send photos throughout, and confirm when the property is clear and locked.

How soon can you come?

Usually within a few days, and sooner if the situation is urgent — for example, if a rental property or care home room needs to be returned. Equally, if you need to book weeks ahead, we will hold the date.
